New Version is Eh
I have the previous generation and the current generation of the Ashland bottle. While I love the lock feature and like the handle that folds down, I don't really need either of those things because I use them strictly at home. I really prefer the older version.
I wash my bottles fairly regularly. I discovered last night as I was filling up the new version and noticed the spout was dirty at the top, so I washed it with a dish soap and a brush for straws. I looked in it and around the outside to make sure there wasn't any more stuff. I noticed a couple black marks, so I scrubbed it again. There were still a couple small marks. I flipped on my phone light and got a good look at it. It appeared to be mold. Gross. I used a toothpick to try to get the spots off but it didn't work.
The material the new version's spot is made from its a softer silicone than the previous version. I think that's what attracted the mold. I've had my previous version since 2016. I actually had two of them but the red one broke. I bought the new version in 2023. In the almost ten years of having the previous version, I haven't ever had a problem with mold. Just two years in and I have to get rid of the new version because of mold. Supply better material for the new version to prevent this from happening.

Worst water bottle ever!
This is a terrible purchase.
I've never owned a water bottle that squirts like a fountain when I open the spout.
The very first day of using this bottle, my brother and I both bought one for a long drive and with some temperature changes of maybe 10°F and elevation changes of a couple thousand feet for about 30 mins then back down to sea level. I opened the spout and a fountain of red crangrape juice shot up almost hitting the roof inside the car and all over me and the interior of the car. We stopped at a rest area to clean up and my brother standing outside of the car popped his spout open and his shot like a fountain.
I figured, one, it was very hot and we had elevation changes. But this was non carbonated fruit juice.
Then just today I used the water bottle for the 1st time only since last incident. I poured juice in the bottle, went to work driving and it was about 90°F today, bottle out of the sun. I didn't drink from it yet and finished work, drove home, the bottle was warm, not hot, just warm, so I put it in the refrigerator and let it stay probably four hours in the refrigerator. I just 5 minutes before writing this, had taken the bottle from the refrigerator and went into my bedroom to do some paperwork lying on my bed. I reached over grabbed the water bottle and hesitated but thought, nah, it will be fine, I pushed the button and the spout popped up and red crangrape juice squirted up and down all over my $350.00 white linen bedsheets and pillow cases. I got most of the juice out of the sheets but some staining is going to be permanent.
I own other Contigo products, stainless steel hot/cold vacuum sealed cups, other water bottles, and I have no problems with them.
Don't you guys test your products? Also, the straw sucks, pun intended. It comes out of the lid too easily, and the length is messed up.
I paid $22.00 each for two of these water bottle with real life volcanic action and I feel like I got ripped off and over charged for a crappy product. I will either throw both bottles away or gift them as a gag joke gift to someone I don't like.
Thouroughly disappointed. Waste of money

Restored my faith in the Contigo Brand
I actually have a ton of Contigo water bottles in my cabinet, and generally enjoy them. This water bottle was actually one of the mostly better ones of theirs that I have owned.
First off, one of the biggest points for me is that it is dishwasher safe. As a mom with ADD and 2 small kids, I HATE having to handwash dishes. They sit in the sink for longer than they should. This does not add to that clutter which I love.
The base of this water bottle is pretty wide, which means that it doesn't fit into any cup holders, so that's a little annoying. However, it does hold a decent amount of water and the straw does go down enough where I am able to get it all instead of not being able to drink everything in the bottle because the straw doesn't go down far enough. The lid has a little handle which makes it convenient for carrying, and is held in by what looks like metal peices so it looks really sturdy. Which is good because other Contigo bottles I have had before had that held on by plasic peices which have popped off and couldn't get back on. The spout easily and clearly locks down, with an audible locking noise. It's not super quiet, (I probably wouldn't do it in a room with a just fallen asleep kid, if you know what that's like) but it's not distracting noise. I don't ever feel like I have to question if the spout locked or not. The construction of the entire lid seems like it has been an upgrade that Contigo has taken the time to do in their bottles, which honestly makes me more likely to buy them and recommend them to others.
Now here is the important part.... drinking out of it. You know how with some water bottles that can have the pressure built up in them, similiar to styles like these? This one doesn't seem to have that issue. Like if I drink out of this bottle, I could drink out of it for a solid 30 seconds and not have to let go for any pressure issues. It also doesn't make any wind or whistling noises as I drink out of it. Drinking out of it, I get a constant flow of water, no air or any other issues. It flows really smooth through the mouthpeice. I don't feel like I need to readjust my mouth on the nozzle or my mouth gets too wet to hold onto it. Honestly, I have never had smoother drinks out of any other water bottle. It's like I'm pouring the water in my mouth more so than sucking it up. It takes very minimal sucking to bring the water up, which was a surprise since the bottle is pretty tall. I drink A LOT of water working out, I feel like I am in a constant state of thirst a lot and drinking out of this water bottle feels like I'm not having to wait to quench my thirst.
My only complaint is that it doesn't seem like water stays cold in it for long periods of time, especially if it is left in a car. It works long enough to get cold water that lasts maybe for an hour, hour amd a half, which is good for a workout, but I wouldn't consider it to stay cold for longer than that.
For a little while, I had lost my faith in Contigo with a water bottle I had previously gotten where the lid fell apart. However, my faith has been restored in them, and they have actually made me really enjoy their product again where I am likely to recommend them again.
