I've seen my way through a bunch of different sippy cups / kids water cups / non spill beakers.
But this brand I thought had it licked.
I bought two 2 packs for my daughter and only six months later she's bitten through two of the mouth pieces, but aside from that the straw just doesn't stay in thus making the cup unusable because at 5yrs old she can't unscrew it safely and fix it herself.
I also have a problem with not being able to completely remove and clean the top. I've just taken the two remaining apart and I'm not too impressed with what I saw. These cups will end up in the garbage.

I bought 2 of the 3-packs for my kids for school. They are almost impossible to keep from molding and you have to suck VERY hard to drink from them. They have all just stopped working, one by one. We can't find anything wrong with them and take very good care of them. Friends have had the same problem. Read all the reviews, Contigo doesn't care. We're not buying this brand again!!

These have been a great cup. The only one we found that doesn't leak. Our daughter started using just before turning one and can open and close it and has no issues drinking.

We haven't had any issues cleaning as I disassemble the three pieces, rinse them, and put them in the top rack of the dishwasher. Our larger contiguous bottles came with a small brush that fits easily through the straw and we've had no issues with cleaning, smell or use.

The straw occasionally falls out (but it is somewhat rare) and our daughter knows how to ask for help if it happens.

Maybe Contigo has made improvements over time, but I'll take the minimal inconvenience of pieces and the straw occasionally coming out as a trade for a cup my child loves and doesn't leak!

I bought three of these cups because they seemed great. Easy to use, dishwasher safe and spill proof. However, not one month after purchasing them. They all have mold in the suction piece valve. You can't take it apart to clean it. I've boiled them, hand scrubbed them with a tiny bottle brush, and placed them in the dishwasher. Nothing is helping and I can't knowingly allow my kids to drink from a cup with even a bit of mold.

The size. is perfect for Power Walking. Unfortunately I have had nothing but trouble keeping the internal staw in place. Everytime I use the bottle the straw detaches Last time I used it I ended up opening the bottel and just drinking from the side. Even my daughter with little kids could not figure out how to solve this problem. The bottle goes in the trash.

    By Momof2Kiddos

I wanted to love these bottles so bad. They seem perfect. Except the spout mechanism does not come apart to clean thoroughly (gets moldy), and the straw does not stay attached. After a month or two, no liquid flows through the spout at all. Contingo has replaced my bottles once (thank you) but the product itself is poorly made so I'll be buying a different brand until they redesign.

We have tried camelbak, nalgene, and thermos and these are the only ones that don't spill and that my kids can actually drink water from at a young age. They don't spill. They do have parts in them with a limited lifetime that might wear out, but that should be expected.

I love these cups! The cups do not leak even when my kiddos turn them upside down and shake them. We had the problem with the straws coming out but realized if you make sure the lid is completely dry before putting the valve back together the straw stays in place. If you follow the instructions and unsnap all of the valve pieces to clean the top you will not have to worry about mold as some of the other reviewers have mentioned.

I wish I had read these reviews before buying this cup. My daugther user this cup almost everyday and after each use I would clean all parts thoroughly and let dry on the drying rack up everything looked ok until my daughter brought it over and tried to share with me I could smell something disgusting !!! I took it apart couldn't see inside the straw so I stuck a smaller plastic straw inside and when I pulled it out it was cover in MOLD !! You cannot see this without sticking something inside the small straw hole. I emailed contigo and there response was all we can do is give you a 20% discount on your next purchase !! MY DAUGHTER WAS DRINKING MOLD

I love these water bottles. Got the adult-sized ones at Costco while pregnant with my first child. (They are great during labor because you can get a sip of water no matter what position you're laboring in, and nobody pours water on your face while helping you get a drink.)

My daughter started drinking out of my water bottle when she was ~7 months old. Was thrilled when I saw the kid-sized ones at Costco in a 3-pack, so I bought them for her - they're still working great over a year and a half later. I run them through the dishwasher every few days, and have never had any problems with suction or mold (but we've only ever put water in them). My daughter loves opening and closing the pop-up straw, and is a good water drinker because she loves the water bottle so much. My 7 month old son started drinking out of my water bottle recently, so it's a good thing I bought some kid-sized water bottles for him when Costco had them.

We do occasionally have trouble with the interior straw falling out. In the kid version of the water bottle, there are several pieces that must be assembled in the lid, and you have to make sure they are all pushed together securely, and that the straw is pushed in as far as possible. When I refill the water bottle, I just give the straw an extra push and we don't usually have problems anymore.

My only complaint about this water bottle is that it flares to such a wide base that it doesn't fit in some kid-sized cup holders. The base is just a little bigger than the adult-size water bottle; we have a few kid-chairs that fit my water bottle but not hers.

IMPORTANT PLEASE READ: I bought 12 of these Autospout Striker Kids water bottle (some with graphics) and anyone who has this brand know you can not detach the spout part to clean, it is suppose to be sealed off so nothing can get in....well WRONG! I clean my kids cups everyday whether in the dishwater or by hand. Upon cleaning by hand I accidentally pulled to hard on the spout and I am glad I did because what I came across is unacceptable and plain disgusting: everyone of the water bottles I owned were molded inside the spout that was suppose to be sealed. Even the ones I had just bought and used twice! WARNING THESE BOTTLE ARE NOT SAFE OR CLEAN FOR CHILDREN TO USE!!!! When I called the company to tell them what I had discovered they informed me that mold was not in there lifetime warranty and that they could do nothing for me. These need to be pulled from the shelves before a child with a compromised immune system becomes very sick!

Bought a 3 pack at Costco for my kids to use at school and straws won't stay in the valve. My kids are too little to be able to open up the bottle and put the straw back in place. Stopped sending them bottles with them to school and started using them only when I am with them so I can put the straw back in place. Have only had them a month and 1 bottle was leaking after 2 weeks. Emailed the company, sent pictures and have been waiting 2 weeks and still haven't received a response, very disappointing.

    By Rachel

Yep, I did it, I threw 2 of these away. We used them just for water, too. Straws were kind of funky, so we ditched those first, but the mouthpiece got gross and I took it apart as much as it could be taken apart and jammed the brush in all angles, but couldn't reach the black bits that were stuck. Kids like the little loop to hold it by, and only had leaks when the inside part of mouthpiece wasn't aligned. But, you have to be able to clean all parts... now that's what I look for when I buy these things, cleanability.

I just bought this water bottle for my kid from Target. I'm pretty livid. I have done everything I can to make sure it's drinkable, but it just isn't possible. Even when I suck on the top, tons of air comes out and hardly any drink. My kid is two! If I'm having trouble, how do you think he's managing?! What a waste of $10. You're right, it sure is leak-proof. Nothing comes out! PERIOD!

    By lh

my kids bring these bottles to school everyday. They don't leak and hold up well to their rough handling. I have a different color for each of my 3 kids. I think the only thing I would change is to have a stainless keep water cold longer - but the lid is super!

    By Bsmith

Bought this for my 3 year old son. It seemed like an awesome bottle. After getting it home I noticed the straw part coming loose all the time. I contacted customer service and they referred me to the online replacement form. After reading the other reviews I doubt I will have much luck with a replacement. I wish I would of read them before I bought the bottle in the first place. So disappointed.

    By KatA

...and I am very disappointed in them. We use them strictly for water to avoid mold problems but they will not stay operational. My 3 yo is very disturbed when he can't get a drink, no matter what position he uses. The other 3 kids are older but still can't get decent usage from the bottles. They are broken after usage of 6 months time and we started with 8 cups and are down to 2.

    By irish

The cups were great when you first get them, but after using them for a while they do not work as well or at all. The you cannot suck anything out of the bottle.

    By Stephanie

These water bottles suck so bad. Your kid has to really SUCK to get anything out of them in the first place, the straws fall out constantly, and our straw/lid stopped working after only a month. And the process to get a replacement lid is RIDICULOUS. I wasted my money and hope no one else ever buys this bottle.

    By momof3

We love the bottles. We bought 6 from costco and use them daily. I have had no issue with the construction but i recently noticed mold or mildew growing in the spout. I hand wash the bottles every night. I can not get to the part where the mold is. Very disappointed.

    By holidayjunkienyc

I really wish I had read all these reviews before shelling out $10 at Target for a straw bottle to replace a leaky Thermos one. My son loves the color and the ease-of-use UNTIL the straw mechanism pops out. How frustrating! To open the bottle to fix...while he's at school? He's in kindergarten. This is ridiculous. I'm shocked at all these bad reviews, thought we just got a bad one. The search continues...

    By Kt

I have been looking to buy these but the comments have made me a bit skeptical. It does however seem that one common denominator is Costco. Anyway that it's an inferior contigo product being sold for Costco brands that might make it different from purchasing directly from contigo or another seller?

    By Jamib

My triplets have these cups and after a while one broke. We could not suck air and after getting a replacement I checked it out more. Come to find out by cleaning it it cracked the rubber and I think thats what happened. Now I have another one doing the same but I follow the cleaning direction, BUT THERE IS MOLD growing where I can not reach..the only way to reach it is to pull on it a little and then the cup breaks :( Really disappointed because if that was fixed this would be a wonderful cup! Easy to use and my kids love it.

    By Ritter

I have always been very happy with Contigo and sang their praises. However, we bought four of these a little over a month ago and three of the four developed leaks in the cap and no longer work! I am very upset about this. What a waste of money! It makes me what to rethink the Contigo brand. With two sets of twins, one kid Contigo is not enough.

    By Daddio

We purchased a 3-pk of the Strikers water bottles for our three kids, thinking we'd get the same design quality as has been proven in our many Contigo metal/plastic travel mugs. Unfortunately, the inner straw holder, inner valve assembly, and the inner rubber spout are all poorly fitted and do not hold together inside the bottle. We've read, re-read, and read again the instructions, and we can not get the straws to stay intact. I believe the motion of unlocking the outer spout/mouthpiece produces a squeezing effect and it pushes the straw out of the valve assembly to free come loose during almost every use -- gently trying it myself with the same results:-(
Additionally, one of the clear rubber spouts (inside the lid) cracked and will now never form a tight seal down to valve assembly and straw). Receipt in hand, contacting customer service now.

I bought 2 bottles for my kids and they stopped working after less than 3 months of use. The suction stopped working and they can't suck any water out! Completely useless product and the website offers NO help at all!!!!

    By karrie1027

As so many reviewers have already stated, the tops of these bottles are defective. We purchased 6 of them from Costco and less than 6 months later none of them are working. The problems started almost immediately with the black seal coming loose - it is tricky to get it back in, but somehow my husband managed. By now most of them have simply lost suction and are useless. There is obviously a design flaw because I have so many other Contigo products that are fantastic! Wrote an email to the manufacturer hoping they will replace with a different design.

I bought two bottles from costco. One of the bottles had an issue with the straw staying in place. It fell out constantly. I was debating returning them to costco when the other bottle abruptly stopped working. Just like other reviewers, just sucking air. Thank goodness for costco's awesome return policy.

So many parts for such a simple task. And some of the parts are poorly designed! Seriously, two parts need to be pre-assembled BEFORE the straw is inserted AND before inserting into the lid?! And even then the assembly does not securely fit nor does it stay in place esp when ice is in the bottle. My suggestion: Buy a VERY well-designed Camelbak.

Like most of the other reviewers here, after a few months of use, the rubber tube inside the spout assembly in the lid has torn as a result of normal use. These are great when they work, but not worth the price given the 100% failure rate.

Also kind of disappointed that nobody from Contigo has addressed this issue in the comments, or elsewhere.

I have been looking for a good "straw" cup for some time. When you spend this much on one cup, you expect it to work. Oh how I wish I read the reviews before purchasing, but I did not. I just bought it yesterday. I can't tell you how many times I have had to put the straw back in. If I have to open his cup and touch the straw three to four times each cup full....I don't know. I really want to love the cup, but for heaven's sake, can you not get the straw to stay in? R&D - come on.

    By klf

When this worked, we loved it. My son can use it easily and loves how the spout "pops up." He shows everyone how it works and it's hilarious. We've never had a problem with leaks, and I appreciate that the spout is covered when not in use. Also love that it can go in the dishwasher. But... After following all the care instructions carefully, we have had the same problem as other reviewers: all of a sudden we can suck nothing but air. We've used the bottle successfully for about 6 months of light use (about two uses a week). My husband and I felt really silly that we couldn't figure out what was wrong with it, but it looks like lots of people can't figure it out either. I went out and bought a replacement bottle (not worth buying the extra lid for the $), and comparing the two, I still can't see what is wrong with the one that won't work. I will probably keep the broken one and try to convince my kid to use it without the straw, but not sure he'll buy that. Really wish Contigo would offer some guidance on the problem. I do love these bottles.

I purchased 9 of these bottles from CostCo and have had them for over a year. They are still in good condition except for the silicone mouth piece my son has chewed. I've had to put 4 of these bottles aside because they are a choking hazard. I contacted Contigo today to get a replacement piece and they don't make one. They offered me a 20% discount to purchase new bottles. No thank you! My bottles are useless now and will be in our landfills taking up space. This can all be avoided if you just made the tiny replacement piece I need. I'm not a happy customer!

I bought a pack of the autospout kid bottles and have had no problems. I would not buy any other kind. I have used them for over 6 months and my kids love them. I take the bottle all apart with the spout open and wash them in the dishwasher and they are still in great shape. I am on this site to buy a couple more for a trip we are going on.

    By Jenine482

I purchased two packs of these at Costco. I was frustrated with leaky cups and I love the closed spout to keep it clean. However, this product is majorly flawed. After a few months we are down to only 3. Three no longer work, the suction does not work. I tried it without the the straw but it still doesn't work We stopped putting them in the dishwasher but that doesn't seem to be the issue either. I'm angry to see so many others with the same problem. We would give this product 5 stars if it didn't have such a major design flaw. Please fix your product or get if off the shelves.

    By mom to 2

why does it stop working??? its too expensive for the suction to stop working! ive done everything! they need to fix this flaw pronto at 11 bucks a pop! come on Contigo! you can do better!
